Meditating With Rocks 101
Meditation is a powerful healing tool that can bring about measurable change in a person’s emotional, spiritual, relational, and physical world. In fact, everyone can benefit from regular meditation.
People are born with an innate desire to be satisfied, whether we’re talking about food or more significant existential questions. The newborn infant cries because he desires connection, warmth, and food. As adults, we search for happiness in relationships, careers, or material items. We are all just trying to find satisfaction in life. The problem is that many people find their happiness in temporary situations, and we fall apart when those situations change. What if the key to sustainable satisfaction was as simple as daily meditation?
Meditation is not as obscure as you might think, and it isn’t just for Buddhist monks.
Science has shown that daily meditation practice:
- Enhances empathy, improving relationships
- Improves cognition, making you better at problem-solving and decision making
- Reduces stress and fights the harmful effects of cortisol
- Improves self-confidence and fights mental health disorders
- Increases your attention span
- Reduces body pain
- Awakens you spiritually
- Lowers your risk of cancer, and much, much more
What is Meditation?
Meditation is for the mind what physical exercise is for the body. Meditation is training in relaxing, focusing, and bringing awareness. While there are countless ways to meditate, it is an individual practice, often done in a seated or lying position with general body-stillness, and your eyes closed.
There are 3 modes of meditation:
- Concentration - Meditating by focusing on an object, external or internal
- Observation - Noting your feelings at the moment without trying to change them
- Awareness - Remaining present in the moment, not allowing the mind to wander to the past or into the future
Tools to Assist in Meditation
There are many tools available to assist in your meditation practice, such as pillows, blankets, incense, and jewelry. Before you purchase anything, though, listening to free guided meditations on YouTube is a great place to begin. As you get more involved, try adding healing crystals and other tools to your daily practice.
Adding Healing Crystals to Meditation
Don’t let skepticism stand in your way of adding healing crystals to your meditation practice. Healing crystals are not a magic potion that will suddenly cure all the ailments of your mind and body; they are simply a tool to deepen your attention and focus.
Much like there are countless ways to meditate, there are countless healing crystals from which to choose. Each healing crystal is associated with unique healing properties that align with specific intentions better than others. While you can program healing crystals to match your goals, it’s best to choose a healing crystal that aligns with what you’d like to accomplish.
A great beginner stone is any variety of quartz or selenite if you’re struggling to choose a healing crystal.
How to Meditate with Healing Crystals
Meditate with healing crystals in whatever way feels comfortable to you. There are no right or wrong ways to meditate. Some options to consider:
- Hold the healing crystal in your palm
- Wear the healing crystals in jewelry
- Create a healing crystal grid on your body or the floor near you
- Place the healing crystal in a location where you see it frequently, for example, the desk where you work and frequently feel stressed.
Healing Crystal Grid for Meditation
If you’re already involved in meditation or yoga practices, you may have heard of the body’s chakra energy systems. The chakras are seven energy centers along the spine where matter and spirit meet. This powerful energy is known as prana, and you can face problems in life when the chakras are blocked. The chakras, starting from your head and working down, are:
- Crown - Located at the top of your head
- Third Eye - Located on the forehead between the eyes
- Throat - Located on your neck
- Heart - Located at your sternum
- Solar Plexus - Located slightly above the bellybutton
- Sacral - Located about three inches below the belly button
- Root - Located at the very bottom of the tailbone
When practicing meditation with a healing crystal grid, lie flat on your back and place the crystal on the chakra’s corresponding location on your body. Choose clear quartz or a healing crystal that resonates with the chakra you’d like to work on. Each crystal is associated with a chakra, which could be related to its other healing properties, or the chakra’s color.
Each chakra is associated with a color based on the color of its vibrations. These colors coordinate with the colors of the rainbow:
- Root = red
- Sacral = orange
- Solar Plexus = yellow
- Heart = green
- Throat = blue
- Third Eye = indigo
- Crown = violet
Alternatively, you could create a halo of healing crystals on the floor next to you, in line with the chakras, for a more immersive chakra healing experience. Regardless of the method you choose, the first step is to select a crystal.
