Mosasaur

Although commonly mistaken for sharks, the mosasaurus is an extinct aquatic lizard that lived around 145 million years ago. The mosasaur is best known for its extra set of teeth, called pterygoid teeth, that helped it hold and swallow prey whole. The mosasaur fossil teeth have given researchers a ton of information about this animal and life during the Cretaceous Period – it was one of the first fossils found that supported the theory of extinction.
