Ammonites are a mollusk in the Cephalopoda family. They lived in oceans all over the world for about and went extinct with the dinosaurs. Ammonite fossils range from very tiny to full-grown human size! They are the relatives of the modern nautiloid.
This is an incredible split ammonite fossil from Madagascar that dates to over 100 million years old. The fossil has been cut in half and given a high polish to reveal the intricate, agatized inner chambers. Not only are they beautiful on the inside, but the exterior of the ammonite features an amazing rainbow schiller.
