Whaler’s Locker is proud to offer intricately detailed, hand scrimmed art work by artist Paul Sheldon on a Myerchin Rigging knife. This is a one-of-a-kind collector’s piece sold exclusively through Whaler’s Locker website. Scrimshaw, the delicate art of carving designs into a piece of smooth ivory or bone, originated on New England whaling ships as sailors tried to pass the time. Whaler’s Locker prides itself on keeping this American folk art alive!
About Myerchin Rigging Knives;
Our newest design for the seaman who wants the absolute finest rigging knife available. Crafted from Stainless, Natural Bone and German Marine Stainless Steel. The Natural Bone is an excellent base for adding traditional personalized scrimshaw. Of course our bone handle is sustainable… carefully selected bovine material. The Pro-grade German Marine stainless that we use is comparable to 440C for hardness and edge-holding properties with additional anti-oxidation elements added for the final crafting of our knives. It features extreme strength and light weight. The Generation 2 Series features our advanced, locking mechanism (securely locks blade, spike, or both) / belt (or pocket) clip / Serial Number / Improved One hand open with new “Open Assist Lever” that allows the user to easily and safely open the blade under difficult conditions. Built on a smaller heavy duty BF300 Frame, this is a knife that will easily last a lifetime… or two. Light weight makes it an ideal money clip.
A note about natural bone knife handles: The real beauty of a natural material comes from the unique qualities of each piece. Every handle has slight color differences, natural stress lines, and the ability to weather and age gracefully as it is handled by the owner. You can scrimshaw the material, protect it with a natural carnauba wax, or just let nature slowly change its patina. With care, it should last for several generations.
