The unique scrimshaw design pays tribute to sailors aboard New England's whaling ships who created the art form centuries ago as a way to pass the time while out at sea. Because of Hawaii’s very central location in the Pacific Ocean it was very important to the whaling industry for restocking supplies and rest for the crew. Whaler’s Locker loves to share this American folk art with you.

This lock-back keychain, or pendant, knife features a brass design with an inlay of smooth bone. Each scrimshaw design has been hand-carved by local Maui artist Derek Fine. Choose from several designs to compliment your distinctive sense of style.

The keychain knife measures approximately 2 1/4”, closed 4” open, and a 1 1/2” blade.

Please allow for slight variation in the designs due to being individually scrimmed by hand.
