Ray Peters has lived on Maui island since the 1970s, where he's made a living as a scrimshander. Over this time, he's honed his scrimshaw craft and has become an expert in whittling bones into detailed nautical images that capture the essence of the ocean and Hawaii.
Peters used traditional and stipple scrimshaw techniques to create this work of art on a 3” warthog tusk. It features the image of a whaling vessel under full sail in the ocean. It’s mounted on a hand-turned snake wood base with Maui Axis deer antler accent. You will be captivated by the detail and beauty of this piece.
