Preseli spotted dolerite is a tough volcanic rock, rich in plagioclase feldspar, with a distinctive texture from the Preseli Hills of Pembrokeshire, South Wales. Early tools, such as hand axes, made from spotted dolerite stone have been found all over the UK.
”Bluestone” is a catch-all term used to describe the several exotic types of stone found in the Neolithic monument of Stonehenge (Wiltshire) including some made of Preseli spotted dolerite. It is uncertain whether humans or glaciers transported the stones 120 miles from the original source in the Preseli Hills to the Stonehenge site.
The deep mossy greens of these Preseli bluestone spheres are spotted with white accents. Many people believe Preseli bluestone promotes emotional stability, and inspires courage.
